The rankings were determined by using UDSMR’s new program evaluation model (PEM), a case mix and severity adjusted tool that provides a composite performance score and percentile ranking drawn from nearly three-quarters of all inpatient rehabilitation facilities in the country. The PEM Report Card uses the indicators of efficiency and effectiveness contained in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument (IRF-PAI), a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ reporting tool. The goal is to recognize high-performing facilities for their deliver of quality patient care that is effective, efficient, timely and patient-centered.

Inpatient Rehabilitation at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospitals of New Jersey at Tinton Falls and Toms River provides the highest level of care for patients who have experienced traumatic spinal cord injury, stroke, amputation, orthopedic injuries or surgeries, sports or work-related injuries, and vestibular disorders. Outpatient Rehabilitation provides patients with the necessary tools to improve balance, coordination, strength, and endurance. While other outpatient centers provide only sports medicine in their clinics, our outpatient rehab is unique--we provide all types of therapy including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. At HealthSouth, we also provide a case manager to assist with the management of involved cases.
