Spinal Cord Injury Program
The Spinal Cord Injury Program at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospitals of New Jersey offer a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach to provide the quality care necessary for individuals with spinal cord injuries. Each program is individualized to manage and support each patient's specific needs. Due to the uniqueness of this program, patients are pre-screened and accepted on a case by case by basis. Goals of the Spinal Cord Injury Program:
- Maximize mobility with transfers, standing and ambulation.
- Increase independence in daily living activities
- Procure appropriate durable medical equipment and adaptive equipment
- Improve specific and general muscle strength and coordination
- Instruct in wheelchair mobility, management and maintenance.
- Educate patients and family on safe transfers, mobility and self care activities
- Educate on community resources for long term rehabilitation planning
- Develop coping skills for patient and family adjustment to the physical limitations and change.
- Facilitate community re-entry
- Maximize quality of life

Through consultation with various professionals and by accessing and coordinating resources available in the community, each patient will be returned to the least restrictive environment with an increased awareness of his/her abilities. Health, clinical and behavioral outcomes are measured at admission and discharge.
